INTERVIEW DATES & LOCATIONS

 

Interviews will be held directly with a representative of Viking Cruises — either in person or online, depending on your availability.

In-person interviews:

  • 13 January 2026 – Bratislava
  • 15 January 2026 – Budapest

Online interviews:

  • Thereafter, interviews take place regularly every Wednesday via video call (2026)

  • €2 580 gross (≈ €1,980 net) + tips

Requirements: Basic housekeeping experience; active English; training required before start (Newcomer Training provided by Viking Cruises)

 

RESTAURANT & BAR

CHEF DE RANG (RESTAURANT / BAR WAITER - WAITRESS)

  • €2 580 gross (≈ €1,980 net) + tips

Requirements: Experience in 4*/5* service; active English knowledge

 

TRAINEE CHEF DE RANG  (TRAINEE RESTAURANT / BAR WAITER - WAITRESS) - with training!

  • €2 580 gross (≈ €1,980 net) + tips

Requirements: Basic service experience; active English; training required before start (Newcomer Training provided by Viking Cruises)

 

GALLEY

SOUS CHEF (DEPUTY HEAD-CHEF)

  • €3 850 gross

Requirements: Solid experience as sous-chef or head of section in 4-5* service; leadership skills; active English knowledge

 

CHEF DE PARTIE (COOK)

  • €3 080 gross

Requirements: Experience in 4-5* service kitchens; active English knowledge

 

COMMIS DE CUISINE (ASSISTANT COOK)

  • €2 580 gross (≈ €1,980 net)

Requirements: Previous kitchen experience; conversational English required

 

TRAINEE GALLEY (TRAINEE COOK) - with training!

  • €2 580 gross (≈ €1,980 net)

  • Modern 4-/5-star river ships
  • Crew size: 32–50 people per ship; Guests per ship: 112–198
  • Predominantly American, Australian, and British clientele
  • Swiss or French employment contract
  • Paid health, social and pension insurance, unemployment insurance, family allowances, child benefits
  • Automatic salary increase after the season; bonus depending on days worked
  • Accommodation and meals provided; modern cabins with Wi-Fi
  • Travel expenses reimbursed
  • Uniform provided
  • Paid days off during service on board
  • Paid vacation every 6–8 weeks; 2–3-month work cycles during the season (approx. 2 months on board, 10–14 days paid leave)
  • Season from March to November / January; possibility to start any time during the season
  • Pre-boarding training provided; candidates with no or little experience may enter through the training programme

 

WORKPLACE

 

River cruise ships sailing across Europe — rivers like the Rhine, Danube, Moselle, Elbe, Rhône and Seine. Destinations include Slovakia, Hungary, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and more. Assignment to a specific ship will depend on the interview and current needs of the company.

 

START DATE & DURATION
 
  • Start: continuously during the 2026 season
  • Season runs until approx. November to January
  • Work periods: typically 6–8 weeks on board, followed by 10–14 days paid leave (paid by employer)
